1942 City Map Revisions
Just over 81 years ago, the 1923 Sanborn Insurance Maps of Elkton and Guthrie were updated for the second time. Major changes in Streets, railroads, buildings, and other descriptive information were revised as noted in the "CORRECTION RECORD" on the respective sets of maps. Guthrie's maps were updated in August and Elkton's in September. The revisions were not comprehensive - some "artifacts" remain from the earlier map versions that should have been changed. For example, the Elkton Map Index lists the "Morton-Elliott Junior College" and the comprehensive map on the same sheet shows "Elkton High School" occupying the site just west of the city limits. Other less obvious anachronisms may have gone unrecorded.
Because color scans of 1942 maps are not yet in the public domain, only low-resolution images are available for private, educational/research viewing. Commercial use of these images is prohibited. The maps consist of multiple sheets, compiled into a single, large file for each city and may require several minutes to display over slow internet collections.
